In my own words. . .
My career as an Information Technology consultant, technical contributor (developer), entrepreneur, and executive, has taken me on a variety of adventures and enabled me to wear almost every “hat” that this industry offers. The early years of my career are still relevant today because they imbued me with a broad and clear understanding of the issues faced by both providers of information technology and services, and users (consumers) of information technology products and services.
Having been involved in the evolution of this industry, I’m keenly aware of the lessons we’ve learned and the need to continually refresh our approach as our tools, technologies and experience evolve. My experience defining and implementing IT and business strategies has taught me the value of leveraging “lessons learned” and best practices. It’s also taught me to use prudence and due diligence when assuming a role as “early adopter” of new technologies–sometimes early adoption is an opportunity to grab competitive advantage; sometimes it’s a high-risk strategy with no upside. The ability to wisely manage the “hype cycle” for maximum advantage is a crucial skill!
One consistent aspect of my career has been that I’ve been focused on, and a leader in the application of advanced computing technologies that enable IT-to-business alignment and support strategic business goals. I’ve implemented a diverse portfolio of high-performance, scalable, highly available, and secure IT solutions based on Service Oriented and Web Oriented Architectures (SOA/WOA) – including Web Services, Service Components (SCA), and composite applications – Enterprise Portals, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), middleware, data warehousing, and transaction processing. Complimenting the rapid acceptance of SOA concepts, Cloud Computing and Information-as-a-Service have also been aspects of my recent enterprise architecture engagements.
Because many of my clients are Fortune 100 corporations or large government agencies, I’ve spent much of my time working with the leading commercial IT product stacks — IBM, Oracle (BEA), Microsoft, SAP and many others. I have also had the opportunity to apply numerous open source products to develop ebusiness and Web 2.0 solutions. It’s been very exciting to have the opportunity to implement “enterprise quality” solutions on these open source platforms.
My responsibilities in my engagements have been multi-faceted, and have included IT strategy and roadmaps, enterprise architecture (infrastructure and application), delivery management, technical leadership, and hands-on development. I have lead diverse project teams, including offshore development organizations. I’m an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills. I’m a strong and enthusiastic mentor and will commit to delivering results that meet or exceed expectations, on time and within budget.
